We trotted through this door around five bars in to our day in Birmingham, a simultaneously good and bad habit of ours.
At this point I wasn't feeling at all wobbly- but that was about to change!

The bar is wood, and candles and plants and skulls. The two of us (the first two in as it opened, we did lunch, we weren't just hammering alcohol) were welcomed by two, lovely, knowledgeable and friendly as hell barmen clad in their work cravats (I love a cravat). It feels like a good old fashioned bar without it being tacky, misogynistic or forced- I think this was mainly achieved with the lovely glassware covering the bar (I love a good bit of glassware), the cocktail menu is fairly extensive, and un-fussy without any horrendous names.

We started off with an old fashioned, and an aviation. Gosh, did it knock my socks off, but in a very well mixed manner, it wasn't too perfume-y either which aviations can be. Now I felt wobbly. But, the banter, the drinks quality and possibly me wanting to avoid walking immediately after that drink kept us there for another one. I had a good chat with the barmen about whittards Dreamtime hot chocolate (because it's the best) to the confusion of my now quite drunk drinking partner, and a rant about favourite covktails; my favourite is a last word, (closely followed by caipirinhas, lemon meringue martinis and brambles, if you're buying) so I plumped for that, and the attractive barmen delighted in the fact I hadn't picked a porn star martini. The bestie went for a sazerac, which he said he reckons is his new fave which was in one of the loveliest cut glasses. We just had the two here early on, as it faces out onto the rather busy road, I wouldn't want to be leaving here entirely trollied.

I'd like to add that the toilets are clean and particularly lovely when it comes to bar loo standards, and I would like to blame them, myself, the Victoria, and my partner in crime for provided wonderful drinks that resulted in a rather ill and fragile Hannah on the way home...and the next day. I have not drunk so much since.

Got to update my review because I find myself going back time and time again to Bourne and Co.

The confused service has been sorted. You are now greeted at the door and advised to find a seat. The waiter brings water to you in beautiful cut glass tumblers and gives you time to look through the menu, giving opinions where necessary. In general the cocktails are shorts but they have a couple of longer drinks too.

Because you no longer have to go to the bar, the darkness in that area doesn't matter and the lights over the seats are fine. Service is perfect and they even remember your drinks. I usually have a sweet Manhattan but last night I tried a Sidecar and it was the best one I;ve ever had.

Now they've decided what they want to be, Bourne and Co is fantastic. It's a completely comfortable atmosphere, service is great, drinks are perfect. I will keep coming back.

A wonderful cocktail bar with a selection of wine and mocktails that don't betray the high standard that Bourne and Co are trying to deliver. The bar now boasts some signage though still discreet. The speakeasy vibe is lovely with comfy seating and low lighting. The bar is well stocked with premium spirits and liqueurs.
I love their Prohibition Menu with a selection of cocktails available at two for £10. Definitely worth a look at when you're in.
The espresso martini is excellent with a good quality espresso freshly made to order for each cocktail. The cocktail is served beautifully and that takes time.
This isn't a bar that will turn around cocktails quickly and in huge quantities. Each drink is prepared with care and attention so relax and enjoy the atmosphere whilst your drinks are made.
Great for a date with friends or someone else.

This is an absolute winner of a venue. A real speakeasy vibe, total class all the way. The best old fashioned in the city. It still feels a little undiscovered despite being on one of the mainest (sp?) roads in the city. Service is excellent too, I've always been made to feel very welcome. The decor is exceptionally cool as well, all walnut veneer and blacked out light bulbs. Come here. Soon!!

Yet another great bar to add to Birmingham's growing list!:)
it is situated two doors down from Island Bar on the same street at The Alexander Theatre. From a distance you don't really notice it, but getting close up its obvious it's a bar thanks to the large windows. That said, the one thing I didn't like was the ridiculous lack of light that my eyes never adjusted to. I couldn't read the cocktail menu at all and my friend and I had to go right up to the bar to see! I worked out where the toilets were, but even then I had to walk very gingerly down to them! That said, they were very clean and tidy which is good sign!
The cocktail menu isn't extensive but it doesn't matter as they all look amazing and it was hard enough to choose as it was! Expect to pay around £8 for each.
The staff were very friendly, smartly dressed and served us quickly.
The atmosphere was great and I would happily give it another go-but I might eat some carrots first so I can see better in the dark!;)
